Active Directory group rule doesn't work for the email address of the group

SYMPTOMS

A custom rule where the Sender/Recipient is an Active Directory group will not trigger if email is sent to/from the email address of the group.

CAUSE

Exclaimer triggers a custom rule if email is sent to/from members of security or distribution group and not if email is directed to the email address of the group.
e.g. A group called Sales (sales@exclaimer.com) exists that has 3 members. If email is sent to/from any of the members, a group rule would trigger, but if email is sent to the address sales@exclaimer.com, then the rule will not trigger.

RESOLUTION

Change the rule from the Active Directory Users and Groups type to Email Address and provide the specific SMTP email address that corresponds to the group.
When Exclaimer asks if you want to convert this to an Active Directory rule, press NO.
