Unable to install the latest Microsoft Exchange server service pack when Exclaimer Mail Disclaimers or Exclaimer Signature Manager Exchange Edition are installed on the Microsoft Exchange server

Scenario:

You want to install the latest Microsoft Exchange server service pack on the Microsoft Exchange server, but installation fails due to open files - caused by the Microsoft Exchange Transport service being started.

Reason:

Exclaimer services are dependent upon the Microsoft Exchange Transport service – so when you stop the Microsoft Exchange Transport service, Exclaimer services are also stopped. This causes the service pack upgrade to fail, because it cannot start the Microsoft Exchange Transport service without also starting Exclaimer services.

Solution:

To avoid this scenario, we advise un-installing Exclaimer Mail Disclaimers / Exclaimer Signature Manager Exchange Edition prior to the Microsoft Exchange server service pack upgrade, then reinstalling the product once the upgrade is complete.

The entire configuration and license is retained during this process and no reboot is required.
